oh not again.... sigh. LJ has fired almost half their technical staff. this could be bad, we wont know for a bit. a reminder, current situations or not, it is ALWAYS a good idea to back up your data and most especially your contact lists! lets assume even a temporary glitch that loses data for Live Journal how would you re establish your contacts and friends lists? recover your posts and data? always have a backup! many people have been posting back up tools for windows mac and others... here are some links: http://sourceforge.net/projects/ljarchive/http://fawx.com/software/ljarchive/there are more...look around now, since i will be backing up at least a few of my posts.. if you can do so, please comment below with your contact info in case of a Live Journal glitch or fail... (so no, name at live journal wont help me.) you can also tell me what other journals or groups you belong to under what user name. i have an insane journal, ravelry, yahoogroup, webpage and several other accounts under "fabricdragon". on www.bookcrossing.com i am "fabric-dragon" as someone already had the all one word version. comments will be screened. | | Monday, January 5th, 2009 | | 6:53 pm |
sick while i will assume that this was partly caused by the stress of yesterday (see last post) i apparently ate something very bad..... ( Read more... )I felt very ill by the time i got home from dinner last night. as many of you know i do not nap well. once i am up, i am UP.... but today i have spent the day in bed, mostly sleeping in between tossing and turning, so my body appears to be in full emergency healing mode. i was unable to stand the smell of Ramen soup that whouseknecht made me for lunch.... this is bad. have had only liquids, and one apple.. also two bites of a meal bar. other than trips to the bathroom have been in bed all day. cannot even think of anything i want to eat, so probably wont. sorry if i dont reply to you... going back to bed prayers and energy work welcome.. | | Sunday, January 4th, 2009 | | 11:05 pm |
sad day oh, i know. things are actually not going badly... i got to the event on Saturday, saw tons of my friends.. including some i dont see all that often.... did ok sales wise...not great, but not bad. ended up getting home two hours later than i planned. crashed into bed.
dad has a funny boot like object, on his foot and a walker, and the specialist said "arthritis and fused bones" but he is walking better. Mom is fine, Wayne is ok health wise....
and i gave Blake to a parrot rescue. i have had him since i got back from the military....i miss him already. but it was his dust and room that was responsible for Wayne having a three day long asthma attack, where he used his rescue inhaler every hour, on the hour.. because he needed to. He was spending days alone in a closed off room with very little company .. calling under the door whenever anyone walked by.. it wasnt fair, to Wayne or Blake. the rescue lady is in lancaster, 15 minutes form my parents... she has many birds coming and going, being rehabbed and placed with new families.. Blake will be fine.... i just feel like i abandoned my baby.
obviously no cleaning reports
we had to unload a lot of the van to load Blakes cage up... i may report on that sometime.
(PS after spending even a few minutes in a room with two Greenwing macaws, a Timneh Grey, a Blue and Gold, and another Scarlet {poor thing was a feather plucker} i appreciate more and more just HOW quiet Blake is for a Macaw. i was nearly deafened. the other birds were naturally all trying to get her to stop paying attention to the new bird.) | | Friday, January 2nd, 2009 | | 8:00 pm |
i hate being cold. got dinner at a reasonable hour, thanks to the whole shop for meal plans thing we had everything. didnt get much done cleaning wise... it was cold, and icky and grey... about all i got done was packing some stuff to go out, and keeping after the kitchen so its not getting worse...hate cold. my reynauds flare up of yesterday continues, meaning i will have to break out my gloves for around the house, damit. i have checked and the new Vitamin b pills were not high enough for me, so went back to old ones.. it will take a few days to re equalize i think. wayne was feeling off, having trouble getting his work done.. i think the weather is getting to us both. Have a trip tomorrow, going to Bright Hills for "Day of Dance" SCA event. I would go in ladyrowansplace memory if nothing else, but i like a lot of the bright hills folks, and its always fun. i just am not looking forward to the load and unload in the cold... i suspect it will be some time before i stop expecting to see Lady Ro whenever i am in Bright Hills..... likely to not post tomorrow.. it will be unlikely that i am frozen solid, just tired.. but frozen solid not impossible. hopefully back on line Sunday. PS for the Catholics and those looking for Catholic gifts... January 5th is the Feast Day of St John Neumann. whose shrine (and body) are at 5th and Girard in Philadelphia... If anyone wants to have me take a rosary or get a medal or something blessed, i live less than two miles form the shrine | | Thursday, January 1st, 2009 | | 9:31 pm |
the state of the house cleaning BRrrrrrrrrrrrr! its cold! i mean nasty cold! and getting unbelievably cold tonight. i dont like the cold anyway, but it was cold enough today that my Reynaud's Syndrome flared up just from running out briefly and working in a draft... and my Reynaud's has been quite manageable since i started taking mmega doses of B vitamins and fish oils. ( what the heck ins Reynaud's syndrome??? )Because of the weather i was trying to stay in the warmer areas of the house, so whouseknecht and i concentrated on sorting laundry and getting some older stuff put away properly. We have put together a full bag of trash and some things to go to Goodwill, and put away a lot of laundry. i finally found out where my denim wrap skirt (from modest clothing...tznius dot com ...i think) got to.. it was hiding under some jeans. still even with the limitations we got some re organizing and cleaning done in the front room, and its looking better. i have enough T shirts to last me a while... and more cotton socks than i thought... and you know, maybe i DO have enough scarves...i still need more silk stuff and warm under things ( www.wintersilks.com is my drool catalog of choice this season) but we keep finding more T-shirts, and this after i gave two boxes of old T-shirts to Goodwill. Wayne and i apparently disagree about what is a 'full" bag of trash.. he thinks that it is ok if he can pick it up, and get it to the curb by any means including dragging.. whereas i want to be able to pick it up and move it off the ground.. also i dont lift as much as he does. i think we filled a bag of trash, and a little bit.. Wayne says its "not full yet". We made lasagna for dinner. i havent had home made lasagna in ages. yeah for menu planning... but its been cold enough that i was huddled next to the oven for warmth and Wayne was trying to figure out how i could eat wearing mittens.... i have an event in Bright Hills on Saturday but will be day tripping it down and back. If you need me to bring anything in specific you need to contact me by Friday evening.... and yes its much too late to order anything i don't already have in stock for that event. | | Wednesday, December 31st, 2008 | | 9:14 pm |
new years eve, and the clean up continues yup.. whouseknecht and i are some party people all right.. its new years eve and about 9 pm and we have : had a fancy dinner (roast chicken with all the trimmings) had *desert* (apple turnovers) and during the cleaning i found a bottle of champagne from a few years ago.. never opened.. and we each had about a half glass of champagne (i had a whole glass. ...wheee )before we poured it down the drain, since we wont drink it again till next year.. and i dont mean tomorrow. We are now contemplating the fact that our dog has to be let out at around ten pm, so he can get his business done before they start fireworks and guns going ... mostly because the big German shepherd police dog type dog is a complete coward about thunder, guns, fireworks or what not.. i expect him to be trying to be under my pillow about midnight. yup, a big celebration night, i plan on doing something wild and crazy.. like go to bed early. anyway, i got two big bags of trash out to the dump, plus about that in *volume* of recycling, although no where near that in weight. then after lunch i went and dropped off a big load of stuff at Goodwill, and a half suitcase worth of books got "set free" ( www.bookcrossing.com) at IKEA in south philly... the entire Kirsten set of the "American Girls" books got given to a family with a young girl who were coming into IKEA at the same time i was. i tried to explain bookcrossing, but i think they were a bit bewildered.. i hope they look it up when they get home. so more stuff out of the house. Anyway, may you all have a healthier, more prosperous, more spiritual, and more loving new year... off to bed. | | Tuesday, December 30th, 2008 | | 7:52 pm |
the state of the house cleaning Well, once again it doesn't look *to me* like i made much difference, but whouseknecht came back from his meeting and said "woah. more floor!" so i guess it must look better. ( blah, blah, cleaning, blah, blah )in random other news... the can of air that is used to clean computers of their dust works REALLY well to blow dust out of those little corners of the stair and railing that i cant get to any other way.... | | 5:22 pm |
five sayings meme Post five sayings that have made a difference to you (it can be practical or theological, emotional or whatever, just five sayings that have made a difference to you, really made you think, changed a world view or something. Posting the saying does NOT mean you agree or disagree with any of the authors other sayings or beliefs...)

BPAL, general updates.. and more cleaning Since we have gotten the camera to work (sort of) i hope to have pictures of my decorated boxes for sale soon. they are "meant" for BPAL imps and bottles, but work equally well for jewelry, and other little chotchkis. Sadly most of the Limited Editions (especially the Wind in the Willows scents which are pretty high on my wish list) come down on January 15th.. and the first real income i have is Arisia.. which is..... January 16th-19th bummer dad is having a bone scan or something tomorrow. he is able to put a bit of weight on his ankle, for a few minutes, but it hurts him and gets worse as the day goes on. In other news: today is my brother Gordon's birthday. ( housecleaning, and goodwill, and whining... ) | | Sunday, December 28th, 2008 | | 4:58 pm |
A Housecleaning meme and update Sometimes it seems that just my housecleaning posts are a bit of a meme...as many people have been deciding to do a bit of cleaning themselves .however i have... (drum roll and eeerie music please) a chart. i have decided that there is a simple to use chart for "how clean is this room?" Who would i let see this room:
No one.....Only other fen/ Scadians/very good friends... delivery/repair people....Health inspectors... my mother.
T his is not an evenly spaced list, as there is a much wider gap between "no one" and "SCA friends" than there is between "Delivery people" and "health inspectors". "My mother" represents , of course, the ultimate top of the scale. So on this scale where are the rooms in your house? you may consider yourself tagged to answer this meme if you want to, but here are my current answers: Living room: delivery/repair people Dining room: very close friends only breakfast room: delivery people? somewhere in between friends and delivery people kitchen: health inspectors front bedroom: delivery people middle bedroom: health inspectors Bathroom: between delivery people and health inspectors our bedroom: very close friends/scadians only as you can see i am making progress, as only two or three weeks ago the answers to all of them was either "no one" or "very close friends only". i will be happy if i can get all the rooms to "delivery people" or higher. if i can get the living room and first floor to MOM level i will be shocked.... Tomorrow morning is trash pickup, so trash is going out today. we got a lot done, even if it wasnt what i thought we would get done.. since the weather was so nice we did a lot of work on the backyard. mostly collecting trash and old bags of stuff that had collapsed and re bagging them to go out.. most of those bags are MUCH heavier than a normal trash bag... whouseknecht really wore himself out in the yard, but my yard now merely looks disorganized, not like a disaster. We live in a row home, so the yard is quite small, but we none the less pulled two trash bags and a trash can worth of non compostables, old bags of trash, broken yard stuff, etc out of there.... plus three moldy plywood 3foot x 5 foot boards and our old bar-b-que grill... which was barely able to get dragged out to the curb (someone already snagged it, i suspect for the scrap metal). In addition there were two bags already packed to go that went out.. plus the main house trash (with added kibble and etc) plus one more bag..plus two dangerously wobbly chairs. Total out of house to trash:
1 trash can, 7 trash bags, 2 chairs, one Bar-b-q grill, 3 plywood panels an estimated total of 420-450 pounds one large box collected for Goodwill two large boxes collected to take to recycling. We think, between Goodwill, thrift shops, trash and etc, that we have gotten a literal TON of material out of the house. </lj> | | Saturday, December 27th, 2008 | | 9:46 pm |
the state of the house cleaning (and family) Well, as expected Christmas day was mostly taken up with visiting family (mine and whouseknecht 's). ( family and Christmas )Friday i was just plain tired. i had to go out to pay a bill, but otherwise stayed home. I did do some cleaning around the house and managed to mop a little bit in the kitchen.. but the main work i did on Friday was an emergency clean up on the two fish tanks (two 55 gallon tanks, one has a couple of full grown Goldfish, one has "Yellow lab" African Cichlids)...... which had been let to get into a rather sad state because so much stuff was around the base of them that dragging water around wasn't possible. They will need more work to get them to where they should be, but are much better than they were. Today we both did a lot of running around. (after we overslept).. The dog got me up early ish and as usual i couldn't go back to sleep, so i damp mopped the wood floor in the Living room. This is hardly a thorough job, as i only got the areas that didn't have boxes on them, but it does look better.... we put a trunk full of things in the car for Goodwill and then went out for hardware needs and groceries... AFTER we * actually planned the dinners for the week* I have been trying to do this for quite a while (we used to) but apparently Wayne has been reading the FlyLady book and actually taking it to heart. (i am inclined to grumble a bit about how men always take everything seriously except when their wives say it.. but i dont want to look a gift organizer in the file folder)
If my calculations are correct the only food we will need to buy in the next month will likely be fresh salad makings and breakfast goods (which run out pretty fast). Now we did buy some "unplanned" things, but i am ok with it.. i had gone into a kitchen section to look at dish towels, and we ended up getting dish towels, a few inexpensive soap dispensers, and two washable rugs! kitchen rugs.. one for under the dog bowl where he spills water, and one for in front of the sink. I have been mopping the remains of the linoleum in the kitchen and breakfast nook.. it is old and cracked and the surface is actually gone in several areas, so it cant ever get as clean as it "should" but i have been slowly mopping it to as clean as can be in stages. Since it never really looks clean, even when it is, i am afraid i let it get *really* dirty.. the amount of dirt coming off each square foot is .. umm... frightening. Three bags of trash are bagged and ready to go out tomorrow for pick up on Monday Morning, the Pot Roast in in the crock pot for tomorrow's dinner, and everything that needs to be put away from the shopping trip is put away. Not bad. Oh! and Wayne found me some new cleaning icons...... | | Wednesday, December 24th, 2008 | | 11:20 pm |
yup, even on Christams Eve... since the dump was open today (not tomorrow) i figured we should get more junk out... four bags of trash to the dump. one was very light as it had some ruined foam floor tile thingies in it, but the other three were serious .... we collected a bunch of stuff for Goodwill and its all boxed up, but couldnt get it out in time. we also accidentally left the big bag of recycling home... ah well. by whouseknecht and my count we have had about 1500 pounds, or 3/4 of a ton of "stuff" leave this house, whether to the dump or the thrift store, or whatever.. 3/4 of a ton, in slightly over ten days.. of stuff that was either really trash, or stuff that i thought was useful once... or things which had been outlived in some fashion.. all out of my house. the sad thing is, as someone who has been doing the cleaning.. i have trouble seeing it, it still looks bad to me.. but i admit the kitchen looks pretty good... the bird room looks good...and the bathroom is a notable improvement! but the main BIG rooms, the Living room and dining room. well they are still full of heaps and boxes and shelves and boxes, and more boxes... i admit there seems to be a lot more floor than i recall last week.. so thats something. the bedroom is still a disaster zone. there HAS to be a way to get more storage space in here.. but part of the issue is that i dont think a room of this size can really be a home office (wayne works from home) and a bed room. i am determined to make it better, even if i cant make it good. sigh.. i did thin out the pile of bedside table books.. its a start. i will be going to my parents for Christmas, my brother and sister in law will be coming up for the day (her mom is still in the hospital). Dad is only a bit better, but i hope he will continue to improve. I may not get online tomorrow, but for all who celebrate it.. MERRY CHRISTMAS. | | Tuesday, December 23rd, 2008 | | 10:54 pm |
The best gift i can give this year... while i am still in the process of filling the holiday_wishes requests (some of them involve knitting, this takes time) and a few other packages still need to be mailed.. i am not talking about that. today i gave the best gift i can give to anyone, and i dont even know who will get it. yup, i went in to donate blood today. ( Well, platelets actually.... )in other news, we moved out the very nice, but seriously outdated Encyclopedia Brittanica and much other boxes of stuff to Goodwill. Three bags of trash are prepped to go to the dump tomorrow, and i have serious amounts of floor in the Living Room. | | Monday, December 22nd, 2008 | | 10:52 pm |
The excavation of the house continues... Only got on-line long enough to post this. Sorry if I missed anything. Other than going to Goodwill tomorrow, I have a blood donation appointment, so will not be able to be on-line until much later (assuming I can get on-line). need to get a candle icon.... Its Winter Solstice, aka Yule..... also the day before Chanukah and the last Sunday in Advent and almost Christmas....
To everyone:
On the darkest day of the year, we look for light. we contemplate our failings, and put things right. we light a beacon and try to mend, and join with others joy to send. so may the light increase, and all ills ease, and joy, and health, and wealth renew to ,strangers, kith and kin, and you. | | Saturday, December 20th, 2008 | | 11:08 pm |
is everyone ok out there? the continuing mess of the ice storms has me a bit worried. since i have been VERY limited in my online time i dont know if everyone is ok or not... 1. can you pls sound off and go "i am ok"? 2. if you are not in the ice storm path you can still sound off and go "not having ice, ok anyway" because you know i am no good at remembering where people live.
and lastly..... please keep a candle lit, a prayer going, whatever for all the folks with no power and ice issues right now. | | 10:48 pm |
the state of the house cleaning you know.. i keep finding yarn, fiber, fleece and stuff... anyone would think i knit, or spun, or something....;-p ( blathering about house cleaning )the Toilet decided to clog up today. now the tub and sink in the bathroom have drained slowly for a while, but today the toilet just backed up and went "CLOG!".. and then the sink and tub stopped draining. since the first floor kitchen sink drained fine, and so did everything in the basement we figured out where the block must be.. and tried to snake it.... well. after hours of snaking, nasty chemicals down the sink and tub, enzyme down the toilet, and more plunging, snaking, etc.. we got everything to drain. now if i actually followed Feng Shui , i might be tempted to draw a comparison about how much of my blockages and clutter i have been letting go of lately..... | | Friday, December 19th, 2008 | | 5:50 pm |
8 days of happy meme if i count correctly this is day 8 of the 8 day meme.... so this is what has made me happy today: 4 bags, a stack of empty kitty litter buckets, and a small shelf that was completely useless.. all out of my house today! wayne got to the doctor and has new meds, which will hopefully help his asthma. cats. i found a new customer service center (aka a dump) in easy driving range... (footnoted) a decent sale on my chosen brand of underthings! we found the camera, which may mean posting pictures again... yeah! i got under the sink in the bathroom, and the kitchen (shudder) cleaned out. (footnoted) i found a way to organize the under the sink in both places (see footnote) and last but by no means least....... my tub is finally clean enough that i can take a bath! (footnoted, and probably TMI) so i will be taking a long, salty, scented candle and hot tea BATH tonight. ( footnotes ) | | Thursday, December 18th, 2008 | | 10:25 pm |
Majel Barrett Roddenberry i probably misspelled her name, but the irreplaceable Mrs Roddenberry has left our galaxy. She was the voice of the ship computer, original first mate on the Enterprise in the pilot, nurse Chapel, and Lwaxana Troi on Star Trek... and a tireless champion of her husband's vision.
she was also a cheerful convention guest, a sweet lady when she could afford to be, a treasure, and more.
sigh another one gone... |
